No time for quilting, sewing or any this'n that!

Spent this week as a substitute special education 5th grade teacher, subbing for a friend of mine that is suffering with vertigo.  I haven't had much extra time. Tomorrow, I'm driving to Virginia Beach, about a 4 hour drive.  I'll stop in Williamsburg,Va at a quilt shop and will visit another shop in Va Beach.  Weather will be in the low 80's so I'll get the chance to rejuvenate my Barbados tan.  My final destination will be my son, Steve's place.  Later!!!!

Making strawberry shortcake!

Strawberryshortcake, using my Bernina 440, with embroidery component.  The finished item will be a towel holder.  Ran out of bobbn thread, and just spent 20 minutes trying to re-align to the spot where the bobbin thread ran out.
Couldn't realign to finish the project.  Time to stop and start dinner.  I'll try again a bit later.

The Bag is completed

A completed,non-traditional diaper bag. Didn't have a baby bottle to put in the side pocket,so a bottle of body wash filled the bill. Had a little bit of trouble with the plastic liner. Originally I wanted to put velcro around the top, so it could be removed for a soapy wash and rinse,  but opted for sewing it in, and placing the removeable pocket on top.  The soon to be mom can remove the pocket, and pull out the lining just enough to give it a wipe down.  Thanks for welcoming  me, and extending encouragement and kind words. Maybe our paths will cross again- on a Friday night !

Almost finished or so I thought

My daughter, Erica.
Just received a call from my daughter with a request. "Mom, could you please sew a diaperbag for my friend that doesn't look like a diaper bag?"

Guess I can always sew myself a tote on another day.  I'll make one addition, before I sew in the velcro for a removeable  pocket.

I have some clear plastic that I can sew into a lining.  I'll stitch this in under the zipper. Keep your fingers crossed that it works out.

New Blogger

Yes, I'm a new Blogger,  and a guest today for the Tote Bag Sewing Party. Thanks Guys and Gals for the invite.  I'm not having any problems with the sewing, but the blogging keepss trying my patience. I've tried to make comments- seems like they "took", but they are not showing up on your blogs. Also my blog doesn't seem to  update the time of my last posting. Back to sewing.

Fabric and pattern selections

Here is  my fabric and pattern for today's party.  I'm using a diaper bag pattern because of it's size and number of pockets.  Hopefully it will look more like a week-end tote than a diaper bag.

Tote Bag Sewing Day

I was hoping today would be a dreary day.  I'm torn between tote bag sewing and puttering in the garden.
My sewing space has a limited view of the outdoors, so I'll be able to stay focused and on task.
Supplies are ready, coffee is made;take a few more pictures, and the sewing may begin.

Spring Break 2010

Spring Break 2010 finds me in Annandale, Va.
This is probably the first time in about 15 years that I have not ventured off.

Spring break happened for me in late Jan. and early Feb.  While the Washington D.C area, (Annandale included) was being snowed upon,  I was in Barbados.  Wish I was there right now!
